The deal bringing South America’s two biggest carriers, TAM and LAN, together was concluded late last month.

The result – known as LATAM – is by far and away Latin America’s biggest airline, and one of the world’s largest.

It will offer cargo services to 169 destinations across 27 countries, as well as passenger connections to approximately 150 destinations across 22 countries.

The merger will mean the carrier’s customers benefit from “greater connectivity, improved routes and frequencies”, a LATAM spokesperson said.

“The leadership of both companies in South America will be strengthened by their combination and LATAM Airlines Group will have greater global competitive potential in an industry marked by the continuing consolidation of airline businesses and operations,” he added.

The LAN and TAM brands will remain, however, under which services can be booked.
