According to the latest Logistics Performance Index (LPI) produced by the World Bank, Singapore is the most logistically ‘friendly’ nation amongst 155 graded by the global financial institution.

Kelvin Wong, executive director, logistics at the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) – the government agency responsible for planning and executing strategies to shape the future of the nation’s economy – says: “The LPI ranking reinforces Singapore’s pivotal role in global trade and supply chain flows.

“The LPI results validate that Singapore is heading in the right direction with our pro-business policies and environment,” he added.

“We will continue to build upon the strengths of Singapore’s logistics industry and the valued partnerships we have established over the years.”

Wong is delighted with the role EDB and other Singaporean government agencies have played in Singapore’s logistical success, pointing out that those efforts have been recognised within the 2012 LPI, in which Singapore topped the list in the ‘Customs’ and ‘timeliness of delivery’ categories.

However, there is no reason for EDB to rest on its laurels – “We should continuously work with all stakeholders to develop more innovative and sustainable solutions,” he said.

Finally, Wong pointed to the imminent opening of the FedEx Singapore Regional Hub, which will house FedEx’s delivery, pick-up and air operations all under one roof at Changi International airport.

“It is a demonstration of how EDB continuously engages logistics companies to identify opportunities to develop new solutions and innovative new products,” he remarked.
